XTEND as an Alternative to Solar Thermal and Heat Pumps for New Build Residential Properties
February 21, 20222022 is going to be an important year for South Africans with respect to the cost of our energy. In addition, with elections on the horizon, it will be very interesting to see what happens to the cost of electricity.
The Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) is asking for 44.5% increases over the next 5 years.
They have requested a 20.5% increase and a 5% retroactive rise in 2022.
This means every geyser is going to cost 25.5% more to run from April 2022.
What is also interesting is how NERSA want to target grid-tied solar users which would “turn the business case for current installations on its head but also encourage consumers to defect from the grid completely. This makes energy storage all the more important and finding cost effective solutions vital. Read more here for an update on this and the planned NERSA tariff.
